Domtar is proud to support Printing Industries of America (PIA) and our local affiliate Printing Industries of the Carolinas (PICA). Last weekend, we were honored to be one of the sponsors for the 50th Annual PICA Awards. This event recognizes and rewards printing and imaging companies who combine fine craftsmanship with technology in order to produce outstanding finished product. This year, the PICA Awards attracted more than 630 entries from 47 printing companies, along with more than 125 entries from 5 graphic arts high schools and 7 college graphic arts programs from across the Carolinas.
The evening started with a reception where all of the winning pieces were showcased in a live gallery. There were pieces ranging from business cards, direct mail, brochures, identity kits, self-promotion, annual reports, and posters to wide-format and more. This is always a great opportunity to see the latest capabilities and gain a little inspiration by the best printers in North and South Carolina.
For the second year, Domtar sponsored the ‘Best Printer Self-Advertising Award’ and we were excited to see the complexity of the piece that won the award. In addition to winning the Domtar award, Salem One of Winston Salem, NC also won 18 Best of Category Awards (which led to The Gutenberg “Most Best of Category Wins” award), 12 Special Judges Awards, 9 Awards of Excellence, the Sun Chemical “Best Packaging” Award, and the People’s Choice Award. WOW! This identity advertising toolkit included was a true show of collaboration and innovation amongst the Salem One team and their suppliers.
I checked in with Phil Kelley, President of Salem One to get his thoughts, “Salem One had a wonderful time at PICA 50th Annual Awards Banquet. Winning the Domtar award for Best Printers Self-Advertising was a great honor and recognition for our organization. As Chairman elect of PICA, I'd also like to thank Domtar for their wonderful support of the print industry. This is a great time to be In Print.”
